Valerie Bennett

I joined Bowdoin as Director of Health Professions Advising in 2024 and am excited to share my experience teaching, advising and guiding students through their exploration, preparation for and application to not only medical schools, but dental, vet, PA, nursing and many other health professions. I previously served for 10+ years as Director of Bradley University's Health Professions Advising Center. Prior to that I spent almost a decade at Clarion University of Pennsylvania as a Biology professor and Chair of the department and their Pre-Professional Committee. I am an active member and have held multiple board and leadership roles for the National and regional Associations of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP, NEAAHP, CAAHP) and continue to learn new things about the world of healthcare.

I moved to Maine along with my husband Tom and our dog Roswell, from Peoria, IL although I'm originally a Jersey Girl and learned to ski in Vermont. I love winter so I'm happy to make Maine my new home.
