Harriet Sarah Walker and Mary Sophia Walker Associate Professor of Humanities

Meryem's research and teaching lie at the crossroads of several disciplines and are rooted in a humanist tradition that restores historical and human depth to narratives and challenges the generalizations that tend to simplify the cultural realities of the Global South. Her first book, From Outlaw to Rebel, published by Palgrave in February 2023, examines documentary film in Algeria after 1962. She is the author of several academic articles in journals such as Lendemains, Fixxion, North African Studies Journal, Expressions maghrébines, etc. She publishes regularly in various media outlets, including Orient XXI and Le Monde diplomatique. Her first novel, Écris et je viendrai (Write and I Will Come), was published by Casbah Editions (Algeria) in 2024 and was a finalist for the Prix des Cinq Continents de la Francophonie. Between conferences and film screenings, she maintains a steady supply of tea—essential to any reflection worthy of the name.
