My research is in computer vision, machine learning, and optimization, with a particular focus on image segmentation, clustering, and the connections between classical model-based methods and modern deep learning. Much of my work develops mathematically grounded techniques — spectral and graph-based methods, tensor factorization, statistical estimation — and applies them to domains including synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and satellite remote sensing, biomedical imaging, and the estimation of socioeconomic indicators from imagery. I teach courses across the curriculum, including Deep Learning for Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, and introductory computer science, and I work closely with undergraduates on research: my students have co-authored peer-reviewed papers and earned recognition at venues such as VISAPP and SIBGRAPI.
