Alex Black

Affiliation: Mathematics
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Professor Black studies the geometry of polytopes, generalizations of polygons to arbitrary dimensions via linear algebra. He applies polytope theory to bound the performance of algorithms for optimization problems in theoretical computer science and to give geometric interpretations of objects in algebra and combinatorics using the geometry as a bridge to transfer techniques between these areas.
