President Rose Joins Fifty College and University Presidents in Calling on Washington to Support Research

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken the US research enterprise to a breaking point. But more than fifty US university presidents and the Council on Competitiveness are calling on the President and Congress to strengthen support for America's research capabilities.

President Rose today joined over fifty American colleges and university presidents highlighting the critical role of research in innovation, education, and employment. Partnering with the Council on Competitiveness, the higher education leaders are asking Washington to provide the critical funding and programmatic flexibility necessary to enable America’s colleges and universities to continue their research, exploration, and knowledge-creation missions.

In a shared statement published by Science Magazine, the authors write, ”The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted almost all aspects of higher education, including the ability to keep laboratories open, conduct research in a timely manner, collect and process data, and collaborate with colleagues and students.”

“Washington must provide the leadership, critical funding, and programmatic flexibility necessary to enable the nation’s colleges and universities to continue the American commitment to research, exploration, and new knowledge creation.”
