Pine State Politics: In Session is a Bowdoin College student podcast devoted to exploring, and educating about, the mechanics of campaigns and elections in Maine. The project works to foster both non-partisan and bi-partisan conversation with political leaders in Maine about the political history and current day events of the state.

Natalie Emmeron and Laren Van Horn

About the Co-Hosts

Natalie Emmerson, Larsen Van Horn, and Sofia Fogg have worked to create a non-partisan, educational podcast about the election process in Maine.

Natalie is a Government and Legal Studies and History double major. She has experience working on local and federal campaigns in Maine, including time as the College Outreach Coordinator for Senator Angus King’s 2024 reelection campaign, and a volunteer at the American Legion's Dirigo State.

Larsen is pursuing a double major of Government and Legal Studies with Digital and Computational Studies. He has experience in Maine politics as an intern for Senator King’s 2024 reelection campaign and as a history fellow in Harpswell. He also has experience with local organizing in his home state of Oklahoma.

Sofia is a Bowdoin senior studying Government, English, and Urban Studies with a concentration in political theory. She has significant research experience and is currently writing her honors thesis on the relevance and application of a liberal education to democratic regimes and systems.

Pine State Politics: In Session; Season 2

Season 2 of the podcast Pine State Politics: In Session finds Natalie Emmerson '27 and Larsen Van Horn '27 joined in the studio by fellow Bowdoin student and California native Sofia Fogg '26. The three co-hosts combine to discuss all things Maine's 2026 Gubernatorial Election, specifically the primaries.

After speaking with one of the primary candidates for governor in Summer 2025 about a potential interview, the team had the thought "wouldn't it be cool to speak with all of the candidates running for governor?" While not every individual seeking office was able to join them in the studio, our co-hosts conducted nine interviews with candidates from across the political spectrum. They had a phenomenal time putting these conversations together, and they hope you all learn as much as they did!

All episodes for Season 2 have been published simultaneously and are listed in alphabetical order by candidate first name.

Season 2 Episodes

Pine State Politics: In Session; Season 1

Have you ever wondered: Who are these crazy people asking for my signature while I'm trying to vote?? Attempting to answer this question, and others like it, became the inspiration behind the first season of the podcast - Pine State Politics: In Session.

Join Natalie Emmerson ’27 and Larsen Van Horn ’27 as they explore questions about how our government operates, and how elections work in Maine. These conversations were born from curiosity about how the political system functions, prioritizing the process over the politics. They learned a lot, and they hope you will too!
