Expedited and Exempt Protocol Review

Expedited and exempt protocols are reviewed on a rolling basis and do not have to meet formal submission deadlines. However, PIs should still allow at least three weeks for the review process. Since most applications require at least one round of revisions before approval, building this buffer into your research plan is crucial for staying on schedule.

Full Committee Review Deadlines

Protocols that require full committee review must be submitted three weeks in advance of the scheduled IRB meeting to be eligible for review. This allows adequate time for the committee to conduct a proper review. Protocols submitted in less time may not be reviewed until the next scheduled meeting.

Summer Research Submission Deadlines

Due to an increase in protocol volume and to ensure a timely start to your summer projects, please submit your initial protocols to the IRB at least six weeks prior to your anticipated start date. This lead time is essential for a thorough review, as well as any necessary revisions required for approval. Please be aware that submissions received after this six-week window may experience delays, which could impact your ability to begin data collection as scheduled.
