Overview

Maron Sorenson’s research is focused on judicial behavior.

Current Work

She is currently working on a project that examines how the public responded, via Twitter, to the nominations and confirmation hearings of current Supreme Court justices Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Along with two coauthors, Sorenson has collected over ten million tweets to analyze hashtag use, key word frequency, and tweet sentiment at different stages of the process. She hopes to use this research to shed light on the traditional wisdom that confirmations help bolster public support for the Court.

Student Opportunities

Sorenson recommends that students interested in the Supreme Court visit oyez.org to hear the Court in action, or peruse SCOTUSblog.com for legal commentary and easy access to Court filings. She also invites students to contact her directly by email.
