As part of the 2026 Campus Plan, upcoming construction and renovation projects will include:
Expansion of Science Facilities
The College is investing in the expansion of our science facilities, with a particular focus on cutting-edge lab spaces, classrooms, and flexible spaces that can meet increasing student demand. The site of the Hatch Science Library emerged as the most promising path, enabling the construction of high-performance lab space within the existing campus core—without fragmenting the sciences or adding pressure on parking and loading along Sills Drive.
The College has engaged Payette, a nationally-recognized architecture practice, whose primary focus is college and university science facilities.
College Houses and Russwurm House
The scopes of work will vary by building, but may include accessibility improvements, building envelope renewal, interior refreshes, and mechanical upgrades to prepare the Houses for a transition to more sustainable heating systems.
- One project per year, starting with Reed House in 2026, followed by Burnett and Helmreich Houses.
Signage and Wayfinding
A coordinated strategy for signage, lighting, and streetscape across Bowdoin's three primary corridors—Sills Drive, Maine Street, and Bath Road—will strengthen the College's identity, improve wayfinding, and make arrival to campus feel intentional and welcoming.
This project includes strategic analysis, planning, design, and fabrication of:
- improved signage for vehicle movement and parking,
- improved wayfinding for pedestrian movement,
- consistent building identification,
- map kiosks and other improvements to the visitor experience.
