Resources and Opportunities

The English department offers many resources and opportunities for Bowdoin students.

The department will assign one of the English department's faculty as your advisor-of-record. However, if you know a particular professor in the department whom you wish to be your advisor, you may ask him or her to take on that role.

In the spring of each year, the English department posts a call to all Bowdoin students for submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and critical analysis for its competitive writing prizes.

The Writing Project is a writing-across-the-curriculum program that offers student writers a chance to talk through their ideas with a peer writing assistant. These guided conversations lead to better learning, thinking, and writing.

Bowdoin’s library—the intellectual heart of the College—provides a gateway to the world of information and ideas, helps students succeed academically, and supports teaching and research. The library’s website is the portal to the combined Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin library catalog (CBBcat), rich collections of electronic and print resources, and useful digital research and discovery tools.
