Resources and Opportunities

A wide range of resources and opportunities are available to English majors. Below are a few:

Academic support is available through the Baldwin Center for Teaching and Learning, the Student Accessibility Office, and through each student's major advisor.

The department assigns every English major a faculty advisor to support the student in planning their path through the curriculum. English majors may request a particular faculty member in the department as their advisor, or change their advisor, by contacting the department coordinator.

The Baldwin Center (BCLT) offers academic mentoring and coaching, support for academic communications for multilingual speakers, and support in understanding and using numerical information and in writing and rhetoric.

The Hawthorne Longfellow Library, intellectual heart of the College, provides a gateway to the world of information and ideas, helps students succeed academically, and supports teaching and research. The library’s website is the portal to the combined Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin library catalog (CBBcat), rich collections of electronic and print resources, and useful digital research and discovery tools.

In the spring of each year, the English department posts a call to all Bowdoin students for submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and critical analysis for its competitive writing prizes.
