Maine Maritime Museum (MMM) is located in Bath and focuses primarily on the Bath and Maine's maritime heritage as a center of the shipbuilding industry. MMM connects people to the past, present, and future of Maine's waterways and their global reach.
Summer Projects:
- Transcribed oral histories of shipyard workers, photographed items.
- Surveyed and organized items in collection and archival storage spaces.
Events & Learning Opportunities:
- Attended MMM leadership meetings while learning principles of exhibit design.
- Attended "Active Collections Forum" Conference at UMaine Orono with local historians and archivists.
- Worked as a bid assistant / greeter at annual gala.
- Learned the process of grant applications for historic preservation organizations.
- Researched and wrote article focusing on evolution of labor rights in Bath shipyards to be published in museum's newsletter.
Takeaways:
- Gained understanding of museum operations, new appreciation for Maine's history and culture.
- Learned to use PastPerfect Cataloguing system and Epson Scanners.
- Learned to engage with fundraisers and donors
- Enjoyed excursions to local historic sites!
