Growing to Give (G2G) is a non-profit organic farm addressing food insecurity right here in Brunswick, ME! As a part of the intern team this summer, I worked alongside the farm crew and amazing volunteers helping in all the farm tasks needed to donate thousands of pounds of vegetables to local food pantries and subsidized housing units including planting and harvesting vegetables, controlling unwanted pests, and caring for the soil. I also created a short film communicating the impact the farm has on the community and showing what happens to the food after it leaves the farm.

Over my time at G2G I fell completely in love with the community and project. As a small, no-till farm it has the rare ability to practice ideal methods of sustainable farming, setting an example for what is possible and sharing that knowledge with the community. This relationship is one of beautiful reciprocity– G2G relies on its steady stream of local volunteers and getting to know this vibrant network of people was my favorite part of my experience this summer (especially our themed pot-luck lunches every Friday)!
