Victim Advocate
By Abigail Martin ‘26A Victim Advocate within the Criminal Division of the Seattle City Attorney's Office provides assistance and guidance through the criminal justice process to victims and witnesses.
The Seattle City Attorney's is comprised of three sections: the Civil Division, the Criminal Division, and the Administration Division. Each division is under the authority of the Seattle City Attorney. The City oversees the prosecution of misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenses in the City.
As a Victim Advocate, I made Victim Impact Statements in court on behalf of victims which tell the judge what the crime has meant for victims and what victims would like to see happen.
I frequently observed criminal trials which informed me of the process of criminal trial and the actions attorneys take during trial. From this experience, I feel excited to someday become an attorney and have a better idea of the daily tasks of a criminal prosecution attorney.
As a Victim Advocate, I loved interacting with victims to ensure they were heard and enjoyed relaying information to attorneys to give input on what the victim wanted out of the criminal process.
