Keeping Maine Residents Informed

Writing multiple stories a week, I reported on topics such as the housing crisis and public transportation. My two favorite stories I wrote were about debates over 1) how stringent Portland’s short-term rental restrictions should be and 2) whether Portland’s inclusionary zoning rules were stifling development.

I loved getting to know both people I interviewed—such as Portland city councilors, residents of Peaks island (pictured below), and housing developers—and the reporters and editors who work at the Press Herald. I got better at writing long stories on deadline, asking questions eloquently, and cold-calling people for interviews without preparation. (I’m used to emailing sources in advance.)
