Helping create a safe, nurturing, and productive social and learning environment

Nuhop is a summer camp for kids with special needs and also offers programming to schools and groups throughout the year. The organization aims “to provide a safe, nurturing, dynamic learning environment where people are empowered to succeed.”

This summer at Nuhop, I served a variety of roles and worked on many projects. These included participating in work on a grant from the Ohio EPA, working with kids on ropes courses, facilitating corporate team-building, helping with facilities management, and aiding in outdoor education curriculum development.

Due to the diversity of my experiences at Nuhop, I learned a substantial amount. I learned how to work with kids of all ages, as well as how to interact with people who are older than me in a professional setting. Additionally, I learned more skills that are applicable to my prospective career in education, such as lesson building and curriculum analysis. Finally, I learned to work in a more professional work environment, which I have not worked in before.

Internship funded by the Preston Public Interest Career Fund.
