Summer Intern
By Andrea Becker ‘26MCE focuses on incubating Maine-based startups and early-stage companies, and fostering their growth in both the broader Maine region and nationally. With an emphasis on entrepreneurs and job growth, MCE guides companies at all stages of seed, growth, and sector.
Examples of companies I worked with include a software platform aimed at the agriculture and food production industries, assisting businesses in meeting various regulatory requirements efficiently. An oyster company resourcing excess products from local Maine oyster farms, and transforming them into value-added products. A commercial freeze-drying company developing innovative technology to extend the shelf life of produce and other perishable items.
I was fortunate enough to engage with a wide variety of roles at MCE, from operations, marketing, administrative tasks, and data management. My work specifically centered on the FoodTech program, and accelerating companies that combine food/agriculture with emerging technologies.
Overall, interning at MCE offered an incredible opportunity to leverage my experiences in Bowdoin classrooms to the real world. MCE companies addressed a wide range of target markets, problems solved, and stages of growth/revenue; often encountering ambiguous challenges, I feel immensely grateful for Bowdoin's liberal arts and interdisciplinary academic approach. My summer at MCE instilled an interest in entrepreneurship, innovation, and startups/early-stage companies, I hope to pursue in the future. I feel immensely grateful for this opportunity.
Internship funded by the Perper, Scott and Anne, Internship Fund.
