Aquatic Invasive Species Intern

Protecting Maine's lakes, keeping them healthy for future generations to enjoy

People gather as Abby and the LSM team showcase information pertaining to lake safety and conservation.

This summer I traveled around the state of Maine and assisted LSM staff with volunteer trainings for monitoring aquatic invasive species on Maine’s lakes and ponds. In the office I communicated with volunteers, assisted the preparation for the Annual Lakes Conference in June, and helped around the office.

“The Lake Stewards of Maine (LSM) works to protect Maine lakes and to promote lake stewardship through widespread citizen participation in the gathering and dissemination of credible scientific information pertaining to lake health.” – LSM Mission Statement

My favorite part of the internship was spending time in the field and visiting communities all over Maine. During this internship I learned that I enjoy working in a non-profit environment, which is helpful to know as I look for jobs this year! This summer through teaching volunteers about aquatic plants I improved my ability to communicate and explain things to others.
