Debate Facilitator and Coach
By Aurélie Nishimwe ‘26iDebate Rwanda is an NGO dedicated to improving the critical thinking and communication skills of secondary students through debate, empowering them to become engaged and active citizens in their communities.
During my internship with iDebate, I played a key role in organizing the East African Debate Championship, which brought together teams from Rwanda, Uganda, and South Sudan. Additionally, I contributed to the planning of the Dreamers Academy Camp, an initiative focused on helping secondary school students develop leadership and debate skills. As an alum of both events, it was heartwarming to see younger students experience the magic of debate as a powerful and enjoyable tool for public discourse.
This internship deepened my passion for reforming the Rwandan education system and debate. I am deeply grateful to CXD for giving me the opportunity to merge these passions whilst gaining valuable skills in event organization and education.
Internship funded by the Preston Public Interest Career Fund.
