Advocating for Books in the Literary Space

Harvey Klinger is a literary agency in New York City that represents authors writing adult fiction, nonfiction, young adult fiction, and middle grade fiction. I interned remotely for Wendy Levinson, who works with literary fiction, nonfiction, and memoir.

Projects and Responsibilities:

  • I read potential manuscripts each week and wrote reader's reports evaluating their quality.
  • At the end of each week, I met with Wendy to discuss manuscripts and to learn about projects she was looking to sell.
  • I provided feedback on pitch letters and learned about the process of going on submission with a manuscript.

I became adept at writing succinctly about a manuscript and I learned what to search for when judging a manuscript's quality. Wendy fully immersed me in the world of a literary agent and I see myself pursuing a career in publishing after this experience.
