Combining research with data analytics to explore new connections

This summer, I interned for Brigham and Women's Hospital's Department of Neurology with Dr. Patrizia Vannini, whose research focuses on anosognosia (self- awareness) in people with Alzheimer's Disease.

During the summer, I worked on a variety of projects for several of Dr. Vannini's studies. For the Harvard Aging Brain Study (HABS), I analyzed and quality checked neuroimaging data from fMRI, DTI, and T-1 weighted scans for all HABS participants. For the AWARE study, I created E-binders that sort all of a participant's neuropsychological, physiological, and personal data. For the IADL study, I did several data science projects exploring relationships between neuropsychological assessments to neuroimaging data and clinical diagnoses.

Throughout the internship, I thoroughly enjoyed the data aspects of my work. This experience has solidified my desire to go into a data-driven field, in particular biostatistics. This internship prepared me very well for a future career in data analytics, teaching me to work with programs ubiquitous in data careers such as SQL and R. Thank you Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dr. Vannini, and CXD for making this opportunity possible!

Internship funded by the Peter Buck Internship Fund.
