Boston Road Medical Center is a South Bronx Clinic committed to providing high-quality care to underserved populations. They foster a community-focused environment dedicated to patient well-being.

During my time at Boston Road Medical Center, I immersed myself in the dynamic environment of a pediatric clinic. I honed my ability to prioritize patient care through triage, effectively managed patient records within the clinic’s electronic system, and cultivated strong communication skills with both patients and colleagues. Under the guidance of Dr. Jorge Cornielle, I gained valuable insights into patient care, while shadowing medical receptionists and assistants which allowed me to grasp the intricacies of front-office operations. Additionally, I acquired hands-on experience in vaccine administration.

I had the opportunity to mentor two pre-med interns on their journeys through the medical field and triage. I also helped spear-head the program in which the clinic provided free laptops to college-bound patients.

This Pediatric internship solidified my goal of becoming an emergency medicine physician. It enhanced my communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. I learned about various diverse jobs that exist in the medical field. In the future, more than ever I want to serve my community as a doctor. I know that it takes a lot of patience, discipline, and empathy to do so.

My favorite parts of my internship were treating newborns, infants and spending time with my colleagues who made the work environment a fun and amazing place to work in! As my internship comes to an end at the Boston Road Medical Center, I truly see the aspect of everyone being one big family that Dr. Cornielle discussed with me before working at this internship. I thank him for letting me be a part of that family.
