Supporting Patients Through Home and Community-Based Health Services
By Miranda Maung ‘25The Andwell Hospice house in Auburn, ME is a part of Andwell Health Partners, a nonprofit that provides a wide range of home and community-based health services. At the hospice house, patients receive not only end-of-life medical care but also emotional and spiritual support, embracing a holistic approach to care.
This summer, I provided companionship to patients, performed reiki sessions to promote relaxation, assisted during mealtimes, and took patients on peaceful wheelchair strolls. I facilitated communication between patients and families and supported the hospice staff with essential tasks.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my time at the hospice house was the connections I formed with patients and their families. Listening to their life stories and experiences often became the highlight of my day. This experience revealed my desire to work closely with patients and clients, allowing me to connect with people on a more personal level in my professional life.
