Conserving the Nashua River and its Tributaries
By Wren West '25Protecting the Nashua River and its tributaries for recreational use and wildlife habitat
The Nashua River Watershed Association is a nonprofit organization with a mission to protect water quality and conserve open space along the Nashua River and its tributaries for recreational use and wildlife habitat.
As a summer intern at the NRWA River Resource Center in Groton, MA, I was able to get involved in a wide range of activities:
- I planned and constructed an educational wildlife display, encouraging visitors to the office to learn about the wildlife that lives within the watershed.
- I sorted through the many boxes of archival documents, newspaper clippings, and photo slides in the office, and met with NRWA founder Marion Stoddart to learn about the history of the NRWA, which culminated in designing a historical timeline exhibit for the office.
- I spent a few different days out in the field, pulling invasive water chestnuts out of the river and collecting dragonfly larvae for mercury testing as part of the Dragonfly Mercury Project.
Internship funded by the Peter Buck Internship Fund.
