Interning at a Law Office
By Caroline Adams '25SKM Law Office is a small law office providing clients with thorough legal advice, assisting them in identifying and executing estate planning goals, and creating estate plan documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney and health care proxies, to carry out clients’ wishes and achieve their goals. The projects were quite varied and gave me a better sense of how a solo law practice operates.
Smaller projects included organizing client files, checking for typos, marking signatures, compiling documents in client binders, witnessing the signing of wills and last testaments, sending certified mail slips, and assisting with pro-bono projects.
Larger projects included assisting the primary partner as she plans for retirement, which involved consolidating files, communications with clients, and attending probate court. This internship confirmed my interest in law and my burgeoning commitment in pursuing a legal career. Additionally, it showed me how to manage deadlines and multitasking.
I honed my reading and writing skills, gained exposure to various legal documents, cases, and statutes. I edified my reading comprehension skills and attained an understanding of complex legal language and the ability to glean relevant information from lengthy texts.
Internship funded by the Robert S. Goodfriend Summer Internship fund.
