Working to End Interpersonal, Relationship Violence
By Mary John ‘25This summer, I interned for Project SAGE, an organization determined to create social change to end interpersonal, relationship violence by challenging attitudes and beliefs about power, control, and gender norms and by advocating for victims and survivors.
As a general intern for Project SAGE, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. Some of my favorites were shadowing our director of client services at a facilitation for those in recovery centers, helping assist our director of education during school visits, and learning from our court advocate during a visit to court.
Throughout my time at Project SAGE, I discovered that I am greatly interested in pursuing a career in law. I loved getting to spend time in court and found that I was most intrigued by the court advocate’s work defending victims in need. However, because I was not always working with the court advocate, I learned how to be flexible and make myself available to help with a wide range of projects. I also gained experience working with people in vulnerable positions, and I learned valuable lessons about listening to those in need to figure out how to best assist them. I am incredibly grateful for my time spent at Project SAGE, and I am thankful to the CXD to have had to opportunity to work with such an amazing organization.
