The Portland Press Herald is Maine's official paper of record. Boasting a circulation of over 66,000, the Press Herald brings high-quality, factual and unbiased reporting to Mainers on topics including state and local politics, arts and culture, local crime and more.

As an intern at the State Desk, I covered statewide news with a focus on the state Legislature. I wrote about the Legislature's work on tribal sovereignty, gender affirming care for minors and reproductive rights. I also covered stories of national interest, including the Supreme Court's elimination of affirmative action in college admissions and President Biden's visit to Maine in August. My capstone project is an investigative piece on how LGBTQ+ housing discrimination is presenting itself in Maine communities.

My work at the Press Herald solidified my dream of becoming a journalist! I met so many incredible reporters and editors who have dedicated their lives to keeping people informed, and I will be forever grateful for the one-of-a-kind experiential learning opportunities that I generously received from them.
