Gaining real-world experience at a general dentistry practice

Pioneer Valley Dental Arts (PVDA) is a general dentistry practice in Longmeadow, MA. They’re dedicated to providing optimal and compassionate care with state-of-the-art technologies for their patients.

Throughout the summer, I was tasked with several responsibilities which included managing sterilization and infection control, preparing and breaking down operatories, handling laboratory cases (such as pouring stone models of mouths and making essix retainers), preparing a Morning Huddle (which informed all employees on patients who had unscheduled treatment plans or hygiene appointments or anyone who had outstanding payments), ordering supplies and coordinating inventory, and administrative tasks to increase efficiency throughout the office.

This experience allowed me to confirm that dentistry is the field that I want to enter. More specifically, I feel strongly that I want work as a general dentist because I value the variety it entails and its connection with preventative healthcare. My favorite part of my internship was spending free time with the doctors so that they could educate me about their favorite cases they had that day!
