This summer I interned with Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) – Maine’s leading environmental organization dedicated to protecting, restoring, and conserving Maine’s environment for now and future generations.

I learned more about environmental policy work and helped with various data management, such as tracking bills, updating databases, and compiling legislative testimonies. Some notable projects include drafting a policy memo on various funding mechanisms for outdoor recreation, gathering testimonial quotes to create a floor sheet for representatives to support Maine Trails, communicating with 40+ different communities and organizations to collect trail project details, and writing Letter to the Editor pieces advocating for the preservation of the Mt. Katahdin area.

I gained invaluable insight and experience in environmental advocacy and outreach and the skills needed to succeed in this career. I enjoyed taking notes on work sessions and going to the State House to truly feel the energy of all the legislators and lobbyists!

Internship funded by the Peter Buck Internship Fund.
