Surveying Portland's Industrial Zones
By Michael Gordon '25This summer, I created a methodology for, and then implemented, a survey of Portland's industrial zones, first using GIS mapping software, then by walking the streets!
I really enjoyed getting to explore the industrial sectors of Portland. This internship gave me a profoundly different understanding of Portland's economic engines and the make up of its built environment. Further, this internship taught me the intricacies and complications of local government.
Without the generosity of CXD, I would not have been able to have experience in the field of planning as an undergraduate. I learned the field may not be for me—something I'm unsure I would have learned without direct experience in a planning office.
Internship funded by the Peter Buck Internship Fund.
