Working at a Healthcare Software Start-Up
By Rachel Scruby ‘25Aprexis Health Solutions is a healthcare software start up that provides a platform for pharmacies to conduct Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Services. These services increase patients’ knowledge of their medication and has been shown to improve health outcomes and reduce costs.
As a program design intern with a psycho-social focus, I worked on building a research library with studies on MTM’s effectiveness, how personality impacts MTM, strategies to implement MTM, and more. I also was a part of the process of a research study conducted at the University of Connecticut focusing on how personality variables impact medication adherence. In addition, I worked on other tasks useful to Aprexis, including designing their User Guide and researching related subjects.
This internship helped me sharpen my skills in research and made me feel more comfortable working in a field that I had little previous experience with. I also learned how to function as a part of a team in a professional environment, despite the remote setting. Overall, it increased my confidence in my ability to find and excel in future positions, even if they initially feel unfamiliar or daunting.
Internship funded by the Scott and Anne Perper Internship Fund.
