This summer, I interned with the Early Childhood Program at the Los Alamos National Labs Foundation.  LANL Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to inspiring excellence in education and learning in Northern New Mexico through innovative programming, collaboration and advocacy.

  • I created a memo outlining the scope of work for a contractor to conduct Community Building and Culture Sharing Lunches with staff to promote a culture celebrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
  • I visited Pueblos across Northern NM and interacted with dedicated staff as well as Tribal leaders.
  • I created Materials such as fliers, spreadsheets, and PowerPoints sent internally and externally for presentations, marketing, and information gathering

I am on the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe. In my experience, non-profits have come into out community, told us what we needed, and then left. I wanted learn from the LANL Foundation because of the inspiringly integrative ways they work with Tribal leadership and staff. In my future, I will continue working for the benefit of fellow Tribal communities. The LANL Foundation has taught me how to respectfully collaborate with Tribal Leaders in meaningful and intentional ways. I will bring the knowledge I gained this summer both into my academic and professional life moving forward.
