Bio-IT Intern
By Emily Simons '24Where did I do my internship?
Headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is an intergovernmental research organization specializing in the life sciences. Within EMBL, Bio-IT is an initiative seeking to support computational biology pursuits by providing trainings, maintaining infrastructure, and organizing community-building activities. In addition to CXD, my internship with Bio-IT was sponsored by the DAAD RISE Germany scholarship program.
My Project
The primary aim of my internship was to develop a database and website to catalogue past training events and gauge interest in future courses. As part of Bio-IT, I also got to assist with weekly computational support drop-in sessions and several training courses that were offered during my time at EMBL.
Internship Highlights
The technical skills that I gained over the course of the internship were just one small part of what I learned during my summer at EMBL. I am so grateful to my coworkers for sharing their experiences and advice over many, many cups of coffee. I look forward to coming back to visit during my semester abroad in Spring 2023!
