Intern for Judge Campos
By Danielle Straus ‘22Throughout my summer internship, I have had the opportunity to work alongside the Honorable Yvonne E. Campos of the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, and deepen my understanding of the field of law.
Over summer, I had the opportunity to observe courtroom proceedings, learn about courtroom procedure (in various departments), increase my knowledge about rudimentary legal research through online databases and the County Law Library, and assist Judge Campos and the Honorable Ana España (Judge of the Juvenile Court) with special research projects.
Throughout the course of the internship, I had the opportunity to work on several projects, including a first amendment project, a project on dual status youth, and a project on how to best serve trans youth within the juvenile justice & child welfare systems. Not only did these projects give me the opportunity to strengthen my writing and communication skills, but they also helped me discover where my passions lie—in serving and advocating the LGBTQ+ community within the field of law.
This internship was funded by the Career Readiness Fund provided by Michael T. Moynihan ‘89.
