Massachusetts General Hospital in the Neuroendocrine Unit and the Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program
By Libby Gardner '21
This summer I (remotely) interned at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Neuroendocrine Unit and the Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program (and a little with the Gastrointestinal Unit).
“Our goal is to conduct research that will ultimately improve clinical care for patients with neuroendocrine disorders.” (Neuroendocrine Clinical Research Program). These units are conducting cutting edge research in Neuroscience, Psychology, and Biology to contribute to current knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders.
Projects I worked on covered various topics including appetite regulating hormones, eating disorders, CBT, Disorders of the Gut-Brain Interaction, and more!

This opportunity helped me learn that I want to be a research assistant after graduation with plans to earn my PhD in Neuroscience or Psychology down the road. I also learned how to work as a part of a research team, perform data entry, write a literature review, and many other skills that will help me in my future career.
I am incredibly grateful for Bowdoin’s Funded Internship Program and to MGH for the chance to learn and grow this summer.
