Deepening my interest in medicine and research.

This summer I spent the majority of my time virtually interning with the Min Lab within the Department of Pathology at the Yale School of Medicine. In the meantime I also participated in a Harvard EDX anatomy course and volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels in Connecticut.

The Min Lab conducts research on signaling pathways in endothelial cells to find treatments for various vascular diseases. I stayed in contact with my mentor, Dr. Xue Yue, through regular zoom meetings and

  • Learned many lab protocols including Western blot tests and qPCR
  • Analyzed data and learned how to make figures using Prism and Adobe Illustrator
  • Conducted interviews with current medical students to learn about different paths in medicine
  • Learned how to effectively read and understand findings from articles

This experience truly deepened my interest in medicine and research. I gained competencies from data analysis skills to learning lab procedures. I particularly enjoyed learning a technique used to study vascular neointima formation within mice’s blood vessels. My internship has left me motivated and extremely excited for what the future has in store.
