Christie’s Summer Intern
By Soren Birkeland '21
Founded in 1766, Christie's is a world-renowned auction house that has conducted the most celebrated auctions through the centuries with last year's art sales being $7 billion.
Christie’s gave me an in-depth understanding of the vast global contemporary art market. I gained the skills to navigate the complex world of artists, private dealers, galleries, collectors, auction houses, and art fairs.
Though my experience at Christie’s, I gained immense appreciation for the arts and the process of the secondary market. In mid-July, Christie’s hosted a worldwide auction that took place in consecutive sessions in Hong Kong, Paris, London, and New York. I was able to identify the key players in the auction and understand the significance of each lot for sale. Furthermore, Christie’s did not only further my ever-growing interest of wanting to work in the art industry, but it also equipped me with the tools to demystify the art world.
