Koru Mindfulness Course

Koru Mindfullness Course is a four-week introduction to the practice of Mindfulness. Mindfulness is about developing the ability to be fully attentive to all of the moments of your life, reducing the amount of time you spend worrying about the future or fretting about the past. You will learn several tools, including meditation, breathing exercises, guided imagery, the body scan and more. Each of these practices are designed to deepen self-reflection, help you manage stress and enrich your life. Attendance at all four weeks is required.

"Commitment doesn’t mean that it has to last forever, but while you are there, commit yourself 100%. By doing this, the quality of your life improves 100%." —Susan Jeffers

Koru 2.0 Course

An “advanced” class for students who have completed Koru Basic and are eager for more mindfulness. This course also consists of a weekly, 75-minute classes taught over four weeks. Koru 2.0 builds on the skills developed in Koru Basic while offering participants a supportive environment to learn, grow, and deepen their meditation practice. New practices will include focus on self-compassion and a 75-minute guided silent ‘retreat’ in the third class. The accompanying text (optional but encouraged) for this course is Real Happiness: the Power of Meditation by Sharon Salzburg. Attendance for all four weeks is required.

"It takes a deep commitment to change and an even deeper commitment to grow." —Ralph Ellison

Koru Half-Day Retreat

An opportunity to take your practice a bit deeper with a half-day silent retreat. Sink into the richness of Presence. It is through skillful rest and respite that we cultivate inner resilience. Open to all students who have completed Koru Basics Course. Registration in Campus Groups.

Community Koru Sessions

50-minute mini mindfulness workshops for any group or office on campus. This session will help build community as we explore how to integrate a mindful, reflective awareness in our work at Bowdoin as well as our personal well-being. These are one-time events hosted by Koru Mindfulness teachers, Kate Nicholson or Shelley Roseboro that can be flexible to meet your groups' needs. Email Kate or Shelley with your group details, approximate number of people interested, and a few dates/times that work for your group.
