As the spring semester concludes, the Museum would like to congratulate its five senior student employees on their graduation and celebrate their accomplishments at the Museum. While their employment was interrupted by the campus closure, the students’ hard work over the fall and spring semesters did not go unnoticed. It has been a pleasure working with Rebeca Perez-Bernal, Yvonne Fang, Horace Wang, Benjamin Wu, and Charlotte Youkilis in the various roles they occupied. The entire museum staff wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Rebeca Perez-Bernal, a Sociology major, brought her passion for graphic design and experience in social media marketing to her role as a Communications Assistant. Whether designing posters for upcoming events or developing #WednesdayWisdom posts for the Museum of Art’s Instagram, Rebeca brought her enthusiastic spirit to every task. Most recently, she helped design the map featured in the exhibition, The Presence of the Past: Art from Central and West Africa.

Horace Wang, an Environmental Studies and Government and Legal Studies double major, worked as a Student Assistant to the Curator. He researched the BCMA’s African and Oceanic art collections and assisting with programming for Fast Fashion/Slow Art. Horace’s interest in cultural difference and the presentation of art came in handy when comparing the Museum’s non-Western collections with institutions near and far, analyzing terminology, categorization, and classification.

Yvonne Fang, a Government and Legal Studies major and Visual Arts minor, worked as a Student Assistant to the Curator to research the Archival Collection of Marion Boulton Stroud and the Acadia Summer Arts Program, Mt. Desert Island, Maine, donated in 2018 by the Marion Boulton “Kippy” Stroud Foundation. Continuing the work of past interns, Yvonne delved into the collection of well over 500 works to research individual pieces and compile biographies for artists. An article based on Yvonne’s research into Cameron Gainer’s Forest Through the the Trees (2008) is included in this issue of the E-Bulletin. She also assisted the Museum with a project to help update metadata, which provides descriptive information about artworks, in the Museum’s database.

Benjamin Wu, an Art History and Archaeology major, worked as a Special Projects Assistant during the Spring semester. His background in numismatics aided him in his project to document and catalog medals in the Molinari Collection. Ben previously worked with these medals as a co-curator for the exhibition A Handheld History, which showcased five centuries of medals in the permanent collection.

Charlotte Youkilis, a History major and Cinema Studies minor, joined us in the Spring semester to work on the upcoming photography exhibition, People Watching: Contemporary Photography from the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. Charlotte helped research photographers and their works for inclusion in the exhibition, often visiting storage to review the photographs firsthand.

Although these students were busy with coursework and extracurricular activities, their devotion to the Museum of Art was apparent in the tireless efforts they made to continue their projects. Congratulations, Rebeca, Horace, Yvonne, Ben, and Charlotte on your graduation and your accomplishments thus far! Your presence and hard work will be missed, but we look forward to watching your future successes as you now move on to new journeys.
