On the occasion of the United States’ 250th anniversary, the Museum of Art presents a major exhibition that explores the nation’s history through a series of exceptional artworks created since 1776. All the selected works will come from the museum’s own collection. The exhibition foregrounds many voices, many traditions, and many historic moments. The goal is to celebrate the artistic accomplishments of the past 250 years, to use artworks to make visible the great diversity of American life, and to explore more deeply the nation’s history.

This exhibition is curated by Frank H. Goodyear, co-director, and is organized with support from the Roy A. Hunt Foundation, The Riley P. Brewster '77 Fund for the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, and Peter J. Grua ’76 and Mary G. O’Connell ’76.
