Professor Chuck Dorn Book Talk and Reception

By Alumni Relations
On a recent trip to the Bay Area, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Education, Chuck Dorn shared reflections on his recent book For the Common Good: A New History of Higher Education in America with a group of alumni and parents.  Traveling across space and time and looking at multiple institutions including Bowdoin and Stanford University before ending with the growth of community colleges in the twentieth century, Dorn told the story of how colleges and universities have succeeded—and failed—to promote the public interest over time.  With stories of Bowdoin and insight into how he conducted research, the event offered the opportunity for those present to think about many issues facing higher education today.  Michael and Debbie Shepherd ’09 generously opened their Palo Alto home for the event, and Debbie and Elizabeth Shepherd Bourgeois  ’09 were the perfect hosts.  For a full set of photos, click here.
