Katy Shaw '11 - Ten Years of the Psi Upsilon Environmental Fellowship Program
Class 2011

Posted November 29, 2010

Katy Shaw ’11 spent her summer as a Psi Upsilon fellow working for the Maine League of Conservation Voters in 2009. Through her fellowship, she strengthened her research skills and developed a greater familiarity with how to interpret and analyze legislation. Her time with MLCV did not just end with the summer. The fall after her fellowship, MLCV hired Katy as a part-time staff member: “It was incredible to spend a full six months with the organization and gain an even deeper understanding of the work they do. My Psi U fellowship solidified my desire to work on climate change and energy issues.” Katy is currently spending her summer as a PACE intern with Vermont Energy Investment Corporation.

Advice for future Psi Upsilon fellows:

Ten weeks goes by much faster than you'd imagine.  Learn as much as you can about all of the different types of work your organization focuses on.  It can open your eyes to an entirely new environmental field you'd never thought about.
