Student Affinity Groups and Clubs

The Student Wellness Office is excited to support student groups from across campus for all kinds of events, activities and retreats!

Use the following guidelines for organizing collaborative programming with Student Wellness. Collaboration means a student affinity group, social house, first year floor or athletic team will choose a program from our offerings and then work with a representative from Student Wellness Office to tailor the program to your specific group, plan out the details, and assist in logistics and promotion.

Typically, it is the responsibility of the student group or team to fund programs and projects. Therefore, you may need to comply with timing and protocol of the Treasury Funding Committee (TFC) - keep this in mind when planning*. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Student Wellness staff with any questions!

Please provide 3+ weeks notice to plan, prepare & promote your program.

Programs may be facilitated by student wellness assistants, asstistant director of student wellness or an off-campus community partner depending on skill & availability.

  1. Begin by Requesting a Program
  2. Upon review, we will reach out to you to meet in-person and map out details including funding needed from TFC. *Note- TFC funding does run dry towards end of the year, so we strongly recommend connecting with our office early in the semester*

Program Suggestions

Physical Wellness

  • Hiring an instructor for a private fitness class (i.e.- active or restorative yoga, pilates, spin, kickboxing, strength-training/weightlifting, HIIT or dance class)
  • Off-campus: aerial yoga at Sundara Yoga or Forever Wild Yoga, roller skating rink time, trampoline park, local walk/hike to Popham Beach-Morse Mountain, etc.
  • Partner Massage workshop in Buck 301 with Kate Nicholson
  • Resisting Diet Culture + Reclaiming Body Trust workshop (or 3-part series)

Mental Wellness

  • Self-Care Playlist Workshop: Use Music to Change Your Mood
  • Stress Less Workshop with Active Minds or Mindfulness Over Matter (co-design around mindfulness practices, collage/creative expression, journaling…)
  • Get Creative! Your Brain on Art Workshop (hands-on health & healing)
  • Food & Mood – Cook up a recipe & Connect the dots around how what we eat influences what we think.

Social Wellness

  • Create a custom retreat for your group! ½ day, full-day or overnight options. Typically, retreats take place at Schiller Coastal Center and need 4 weeks notice, but best to plan at start of semester regardless. Student Wellness Office can brainstorm and help shape and set up your retreat for success.
  • Colors & Connection Workshop: this is a fun, creative and interactive workshop to both meet new people (i.e- a mixer between groups) and create deeper, meaningful connections with other students.
  • We’re Not Really Strangers Anymore- perfect for a low-key event paired with some good food or treats to gather round and get to know each other better & in unexpected ways!
  • Host a Moth Radio Hour storytelling event – create a lounge scene (social house common rooms work great), select a theme for the stories, create community that’s vulnerable, funny, real. This event needs enough time for storytellers to prepare their shares ahead of time + promotion. Very worthwhile when it comes together!
  • Host a film screening (house bonding, wider campus or broader community) followed by lively discussion. Pitch a film to us or Student Wellness can access short films to recommend depending on preferred focus/topic.

Wellness Ideas on Your Own

  • Get a walking or exercise buddy to move with regularly
  • Set a space & time in college house for weekly meditation-contemplation drop-ins
  • End-of-semester personal Book Swaps- share your favorite reads for over breaks
  • Common room ongoing art project
  • House/floor/team elves: do random acts of kindness for your person thru semester
  • Weekly baking nights
