Max Duboff
Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy
I specialize in ancient Greek and Roman ethics, with a particular focus on Epicureanism. Epicurus and his followers thought that pleasure is what's good, but I explore what they meant by pleasure and the challenging implications of this view. I received my PhD in Classics and Philosophy from Yale University. In addition to ancient philosophy, I'm fascinated by applied ethics (especially reproductive ethics and medical ethics), feminist philosophy, and philosophy of religion. I love teaching, especially to help students discover the philosophical dimensions of everyday experiences! I co-host the Bruchim Podcast, exploring the ethics and experiences of circumcision from a Jewish perspective. Outside of philosophy, I most enjoy music, board games, and homemade dips.
