Message to Faculty and Staff—Scott Meiklejohn's Next Role (October 29, 2020)

To my faculty and staff colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that Scott Meiklejohn, our senior vice president for development and alumni relations, will transition to a new role as senior advisor at the College, effective next summer.
Scott, who is now in his twenty-fourth year at Bowdoin, has been speaking with me about carving out additional time for himself and his family. This new role will allow him to do that while also making sure the College continues to benefit from his experience, knowledge, and expertise.

As many of you know, Scott began his Bowdoin career in development and alumni relations before moving to the president’s office in 2003 to assist President Barry Mills. In 2008, he stepped into the role of interim dean of admissions and student aid and was named dean a year later. In 2016, Scott returned to development and alumni relations in the leadership role, when I asked him to begin planning for the comprehensive fundraising campaign we launched so successfully in February.

As senior advisor, Scott will continue to be very engaged in our From Here comprehensive campaign; he will continue to have responsibility for some alumni and parent relationships; and he will work with me and the other members of the senior staff on various projects that call on his experience and knowledge of Bowdoin. We will conduct a national search for a new senior vice president for development and alumni relations, and Scott will remain in that position until his successor arrives.

Scott has had a remarkable impact on Bowdoin over many years. I know you join me in thanking Scott for all he has done thus far, and in looking forward to his many contributions to the College that are to come.

All the best,

Clayton
