Willard F. Enteman (1978–1980)

Painting of Willard Enteman

Willard F. Enteman served as the eleventh president of the College from 1978-1980. Enteman received an M.B.A. from Harvard University. Following several years of teaching philosophy at Wheaton College, he was appointed chair of the philosophy department at Union College. Enteman became Bowdoin's eleventh president in 1978. His brief tenure came to an end in 1980, when conflicts between the President and the Governing Boards over the direction of the College were deemed irreconcilable.
