2026 Reaccreditation

To the campus community,

I am writing to share plans for Bowdoin’s next reaccreditation review.

In fall 2026, Bowdoin will undergo its decennial review by the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE). This review is a two-stage process that involves the preparation of a comprehensive self-study by the College, followed by a three-day campus visit by members of a NECHE-sponsored visiting team scheduled for November 1-4, 2026.

The self-study, which is submitted to NECHE and the visiting team in advance of their visit, is intended to illustrate how Bowdoin fulfills the standards of accreditation established by NECHE. Preparation of our self-study will be led by a committee of Bowdoin faculty, staff, and students, co-chaired by Jen Scanlon and Tina Finneran. The committee will guide development of the self-study and the process will be participatory. Over the course of the 2025-2026 academic year, the reaccreditation committee will seek input from and engage in conversations with many members of our campus community, offering valuable opportunities for us to look back on what has been accomplished since our last review and to look ahead to the future.

In the coming months, Jen and Tina will share more information about the reaccreditation process and opportunities for involvement. Today, I am pleased to announce our 2026 Reaccreditation Committee and to thank my fellow committee members in advance for the work we will do together.

Sincerely,

Safa
