On-Campus Resources
In addition to emergency resources and the Title IX office, we have a variety of offices and professionals who are equipped to provide support during traditional business hours and who can be reached after hours through the administrator on call (207-504-6447).
Resources listed with an asterisk (*) are non-reporting resources—they are not mandated to connect students to the Title IX office.

Trained staff clinicians are available to provide confidential support to all survivors and concerned others in any stage of the healing process and to help students work through any experience of trauma or emotional distress. There is an emergency hour reserved from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, for any student who feels they need to be seen immediately.

Trained health staff members are a confidential resource available to support all survivors in their healing process, as well as to provide medical services, such as the morning-after pill, confidential sexually transmitted disease testing, and treatment for any injuries or wounds resulting from an assault. While the center does not complete forensic exams, clinicians can counsel a survivor in the process, and local hospital emergency rooms can complete these exams.

Bowdoin Security will respond immediately if a student feels that they are in danger. Security can also notify the dean on call; counselor on call; and/or doctor on call. These three staff members on call are available to be contacted via Bowdoin Security in any emergency situation twenty-four hours a day while classes are in session. Note: Contacting security does not oblige the student to make a report with the police. Security will, however, notify the Title IX coordinator about any reports of sexual misconduct or gender-based violence.

The center provides a safe and nonjudgmental space for survivors and/or friends to feel supported in their healing process, regardless of the sexual orientation or the gender identity of any person involved. The director is available to provide a listening ear, connect students to available resources, and provide confidential support surrounding LGBTQ+ issues.

The Center for Multicultural Life supports the College’s mission to foster an environment free of fear and intimidation, and where differences can flourish. Central to its mission is providing students of color, international students, first-generation students, and low-income students assistance as they transition to Bowdoin and navigate their college experience. The director is available to provide a listening ear, connect students to available resources, and provide confidential support to students.

The Rachel Lord Center for Religious and Spiritual life at Bowdoin provides support and guidance for students and groups involved in religious activities, faith traditions, and personal spiritual growth. Oliver Goodrich does not represent any one religious tradition, but rather guides and coordinates the faith groups on campus, encouraging interfaith understanding, dialogue, and education. He is a confidential resource available for counseling on issues of ethics, faith, and spirituality.

Deans from the Office of the Dean of Students are available to help support survivors in their healing process and connect them to appropriate support venues. They are able to help explain the choices a student has in reporting any incident of sexual misconduct.

The Residential Life office staff is available to support survivors and help connect them to appropriate resources. The staff is also available to provide support and guidance to proctors and resident assistants who are supporting survivors. Residential Life can also work with Bowdoin Security to address any housing safety concerns.
Off-Campus Resources
While many students choose to use on-campus resources, there is a wide variety of off-campus resources that are available both in an emergency or for long-term support. Some of the organizations that follow are local, while some are national. Should you need help, please reach out to one of them.

The police department can receive and investigate reports of sexual violence.

Mid Coast Hospital can test for STDs, HIV, pregnancy, and injury, as well as do a general wellness check. Hospitals can also, at the survivor’s request, collect forensic evidence to use in filing a police report (also known as a "rape kit"). If a survivor is thinking of having evidence collected, they should try to not shower, go to the bathroom, eat, drink, or brush their teeth in order to best preserve the evidence. If the survivor feels they must change clothes, they should try to place each article of clothing in an individual paper bag.
