The twelve-hour series, told in six parts, details the country’s founding with help from Zabin, a historian of early America and Carleton College’s Stephen R. Lewis Jr. Professor of History and the Liberal Arts.

Zabin’s book The Boston Massacre: A Family History reportedly caught the eye of Burns’s two codirectors Sarah Botstein and David Scmidt.

“Because my book is full of juicy little stories about ordinary people, they wondered if I could give them some leads,” said Zabin in an article on Carleton’s website.

The series premiered on PBS on Sunday, November 16. Watch the official trailer on the PBS website and on YouTube.
