Bowdoin's Meryem Belkaïd Appears on France 24

By Bowdoin News

This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the end of France's 130-year colonial occupation of Algeria—and the end of a brutal eight-year conflict between the two nations. In light of this occasion, professor Meryem Belkaïd participated in a French television program to reflect on whether France can "heal the wound."

Belkaïd, an assistant professor of Romance Languages and Literatures, appeared on France 24's "The Debate" with three other experts: Todd Shepard, professor of history at John's Hopkins University; former French diplomat André de Bussy; and journalist Dorothée Myriam Kellou.

The conversation took place in English and can be watched here.

Belkaïd specializes in both literature and political science. Her current research focuses on contemporary North African cinema and literature.
