A Word from the Chapter President

"Phi Beta Kapa does much more for Bowdoin than simply adding new members,” says Anne Collins Goodyear, president, Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha of Maine, and codirector, Bowdoin College Museum of Art.

“The Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholars Program has helped make possible, with support from Bowdoin’s Lecture and Concerts Committee, great programming over the past three academic years in a range of disciplines. It has enabled us to have lectures, class visits, and other programming," Goodyear adds. These events include visits by historian Thomas Laqueur, art historian Nicola Courtright, and geologist Richard Alley.

Aside from Goodyear, the other Phi Beta, Alpha of Maine officers at Bowdoin are: Professor of Government Janet M. Martin, who is vice president; Systems/Digital Initiatives Librarian Karl Fattig, who is secretary and treasurer; and Library Media Commons Assistant Elizabeth Davis, who is chair of the Nominations Committee.
